According to the classification of schools by gender, education in Britain can be divided into three types of institutions: mixed schools, schools for girls and schools for boys

The most popular schools in Britain are Boarding Schools. These are institutions where kids not only study, but live. The best-known boarding school is Eton where Princes William and Harry lived and studied.

Many British children start school at the age of 3 or 4 if there is a play school near their house. NURSERY These schools are NURSERY and they are not compulsory. 30 % of British children go to the nursery schools. Children are taught to sing, draw, they play different creative games. Compulsory education begins at the age of 5, when children go to primary school. Education “Education brings a child the world”

In the private sector, education begins at the age of 7. Before they are 13 years old they attend primary school, which is sometimes called the Preparatory and then, after successfully passed exams, they enter the secondary school.

Towards the end of their fourth year in the junior school, a certain percentage of English schoolchildren still have to write their “11+” Examinations Children study compulsory (core) subjects: English, Literature Mathematics IT (information technology) Religious Education and optional courses: one foreign language one science subject one art subject History Geography PE (physical education) Design and Technology

The grammar school - traditional literary and scientific education up to the age of eighteen, it gives pupils the more academic education, and prepares them for entry to universities. The secondary modern school - general education, including much instruction of a practical sort, up to the age of fifteen only, when the children leave school to go to work. The Technical school - technical education up to the age of eighteen, but as yet there are very few schools of this type.

At the age of 16 young people have to decide which way to go next: either to continue education in order then to go to university, or to get the vocational training and start working. At this age the have to pass The General Certificate of Education exams.

Those who wishes to go to university must "pass" a special two-year course. Then at the end of the course, students take exams of the second ("advanced") level, the so-called "A-levels" ("Highers" in Scotland)

Higher education in Great Britain is quite expensive, especially for foreign students. However, there are sometimes tuition grants for talented students.
