 Is It Ethical????

 Is it ethical??? Scenario 5: “Mohammed is an out-of-work social worker who was just turned down by 5 employers in one week. When he finds out about a dream position at a nearby agency, he decides to embellish his resume. He claims to possess certification in an area he has read about extensively. He has years of experience but no official training or certification in this area.” Taken from Horn, Thomas © 2011 “Is it ethical?: 101 Scenarios in everyday social work practice, a discussion workbook”

 Is it ethical???, cont’d  Is Mohammed acting in an ethical manner? Why or why not?  Describe all possible breaches of the Code of Ethics  What is Mohammed purposely removed significant education or experience from his resume because he considered himself “over qualified” for a position? Taken from Horn, Thomas © 2011 “Is it ethical?: 101 Scenarios in everyday social work practice, a discussion workbook”

 Chapter 14 Highlights In a role play scenario, practice doing a first interview with a client whose presenting problem is severe anxiety in which you include a discussion of the criteria relating to termination.

 Review Questions

 Question 1 1) Which of the following is NOT a legitimate reason for a social work practitioner to terminate services? A) The negotiated contract is successfully completed B) The client's insurance runs out and services are immediately terminated C) The worker chooses not to continue with the client D) The client moves

 Question 2 2.) Discussing, with the client, situations that are high risk for them, skills that can be used to cope with high risk situations, along with relaxation and stress management skills are all associated with: A) Relaxation B) Treatment of personality disorders C) Social learning experiences D) Strategies for relapse prevention

 Let’s Talk Termination What is it? When does it start? Why is it important? What problems or barriers can arise at termination? What are your fears about termination? How will you handle unplanned/unexpected client termination?

 Let’s Practice… In a role play scenario, apply the general tasks of termination. The client is a 32 year old male who has completed 15 weeks of therapy for depression and anger management. Focus on reviewing with the client their purpose for seeking assistance, problems that were unresolved, the knowledge and skills they have acquired, and how the client feels about the process of termination. You have 10 minutes to play the role of client and 10 to play the role of therapist.
