Key Stage 3 Curriculum HASSENBROOK ACADEMY

Year 7 and 8: Broad and balanced…..  The basis for success at Hassenbrook Academy is based on a broad and balanced year 7 and 8 curriculum.  All pupils study the following subjects: English, Maths, Science, Humanities, R.E., Art, Drama, Music, French, Technology and IT. There are also SPaG (spelling, punctuation and grammar) lessons and PSHE. In year 8 pupils expand their MFL exposure by adding Spanish to their curriculum.  Where appropriate pupils receive one to one provision to narrow the gap from primary school starting points.

Year 9 – preparation for GCSE  All pupils study the following subjects as a core entitlement: English, Maths, Science, Humanities, IT, RE and PE. They then choose one from: Art, Drama, Music or PE(Theory) They also choose one from: Textiles, Food Technology, Product Design or Electro- Engineering For MFL pupils are allocated the following pathway based on learning needs: 1) French and Spanish 2) French and Core Literacy & Numeracy catch up or 3) Core Literacy & Numeracy catch up  All pupils still receive SPaG and PSHE lessons.

SMSC  5 dedicated days across the school year in which all pupils undertake a bespoke programme of learning to broaden their horizons and promote development beyond the classroom.  The use SMSC days is just one of the ways the Academy promotes fundamental British values.

Key Stage 4:  Please see our GCSE Achievement and Aspiration Pathways booklet for a detailed description of the curriculum at KS4.
