5th and 6th need this due to Aspire Monday and classes not meeting on Tuesday.

Honors students will need to get a novel. I have ordered 30 books for the students who paid or responded, but I have 62 honors students. You must get the book yourself (from an older student, a bookstore, or a library) if you didn't order from me. Do that right away!

Please announce to your students they are not to be dropped off in the back. This has become a safety issue. This also means the street. They are to be dropped off in the front of the school. Thanks, Rhonda Mayfield Principal Alba Middle School

Field Day tickets go on sale during homeroom today. They are 5/$1.00 now, and they will be 4/$1.00 that day.

Mon., Apr. 20--my 4th-6th take reading Aspire; no 1st or 3rd Tues., Apr. 21--Science: Perez 2nd & 3rd; no 5th or 6th Wed., Apr. 22--Perez 4th & 5th; Tyler 4th-6th; no 1st or 2nd Thurs., Apr. 23--testing periods 1st, 2nd, & 3rd, so these will be long; however, none of these are 8th grade students' tests. no 5th or 6th The rest of the tests should not affect our bell schedule, as they are only 35 minutes long. Friday, April 24, will be writing; Monday will be English/Language Arts.

This is from an office about the hall passes: T ell the students that they must go to the restroom between class change. If they have a medical reason as to why they need to go throughout class, they must bring a doctor’s note. So me students do have a doctor's note on file, so if I sign one, that may be the reason.

During Aspire testing, movement in the halls will be severely restricted. Only people who have doctor's notes on file will be allowed to go to the restroom when they need to go. You MUST go to the restroom between classes!

The Outsiders

Chapter 4 In the park, the blue Mustang finds them. Five boys, including Bob and his friend Randy, hop out. They are drunk. The five boys are going to get revenge on the Greasers for picking up Soc girls. The guys exchange insults. Then one begins holding Ponyboy under the fountain's water, drowning him. He blacks out. When he comes to, the Socs are gone. Johnny reveals that he killed Bob to save Ponyboy's life. Ponyboy sees the body and the switchblade and gets sick. Johnny convinces him to go to Dally, who will know what to do. They find him and get money, a gun, and a plan. They hop a train to Windrixville to hide out in an abandoned church.

Chapter 5 They jump off the train at Windrixville and make their way to the abandoned church. Johnny goes off to buy supplies. He brings back a paperback book (Gone with the Wind because he knew Pony wanted to read it), peroxide, cigarettes, and baloney sandwich makings. He tells Ponyboy that they have to disguise themselves, and they reluctantly cut their long hair, and Ponyboy bleaches his. For a week, they hide out in the church. When they discuss the book, Johnny says that the Southern gentlemen remind him of Dally, and Pony is shocked. Later, they discuss sunrises and the poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay" by Robert Frost.

Chapter 5 After about five days, Dally shows up at the church. He gives Ponyboy some grief for changing his hair, and then he gives him a letter from Sodapop, who guessed that Dally knew where Pony and Johnny are. Dally says the police approached him about Bob’s murder, and he "let it slip" that they had fled to Texas. He takes Johnny and Ponyboy to the Dairy Queen and tells them that a state of open warfare exists between the greasers and the Socs, who are furious about Bob’s death. He also lets slip that Cherry Valance, feeling responsible for that night, has been acting as a spy for the greasers. He adds that in a day’s time, the two groups will meet for a rumble.

Chapter 6 Johnny shocks Dally by telling him he wants to go back home and turn himself in for the murder. Dally tries to change Johnny’s mind, telling him he never wants to see Johnny hardened the way prison would harden him. Johnny points out that his own parents would not care what happens to him, but Ponyboy’s brothers care about him and want to see him. Ponyboy is surprised at how Dally is speaking so sincerely to Johnny, but he is also relieved at the thought of going home. Swearing under his breath, Dally begins to drive Johnny and Ponyboy home. As they drive past the church where Ponyboy and Johnny have been staying, they see that it is on fire.
