Land China is located in the East Asia. It is close to Korea and Mongolia. The area of China is 9,596,960 sq km .China is mostly mountains, high plateaus, deserts , plains, deltas, and hills. 70% of Chinese live in rural area and 30% of Chinese live in cities.The capital city is Beijing and major cities are Shanghai, Hong Kong ,and Macau. There many famous places such as the Tiananmen Square and The Great Wall of China SWARTHMORE CHINA 2007

Water Rivers are important to people. Rivers provide fish, water for plants. It give people a fertile land so that is why beside river is a good place to farm. There are two major rivers in China which are the Yangtze River and Yellow River. Yangtze River is the fourth longest river in the world. In Yellow River, there were lots of flood so people called it ‘China’s Sorrow’. The farming had failed and people got hurt a lot..

Climate Since China is a huge country, there are lots of climates. In the far northeast part of China is Subarctic, or mainly cold. The north and the east part of China is Semiarid which means hot summer and cold winter. The place where the desert is or little top of the middle China. It is Arid which is hot days and cold nights. The east part of China is Humid Continental, or hot summers and cold winter. The East and the South parts of China are Humid Subtropical which means hot summer and cold winter. Finally the last climate that China has is Tropical west is in the south part. It means hot all year around.

Vegetation In China, different places,people plant different things. For example, in the southern China, people grow rice because rice grows where the weather is warm. But in Northern China, it is cold so it is better to grow grains than rice. Northern Chinese eat noodles. Farmers need to plant ever bit of land so they can grow more. Someplace, people do a double cropping which means to grow 2 plants at a time. Farming is usually by hands. Farmers cut the plants and pack them to be ready to be sold.

Natural Resources China is the one of the countries who supplies a lot of coal. The natural resources of China are coal, iron, petroleum, and natural gas, tin, and hydroelectric power (world’s largest).(1) China doesn’t need import everything. Only the raw materials that China does not have. Most of mineral factories are in the east since there are cities in the east.(7)

Historic Tradition There are lots of events in China. In New Year, people gather together and have a celebration. In the celebration, it is family’s time and it is time to dance dragons. There are parades of dragon and lion dancing. The dragons are huge that 14people needs to hold a dragon to dance. There are some other festival such as Dragon Boat Festival and Festival of Ice and Snow. Festival Ice and Snow is happening to make people enjoy cold weather in northern part of China where it is cold. Chinese play their own games like Chinese chess &checkers and Champion crickets.

People China has the largest population in the world. About a fifth of the world’s people live in China. China has a population of about 1,096,584,000. About 7million people live in Shanghai. Beijing, the capital, has about 6 million residents. China has at least 18 cities with a population of more than 1 million. 79% of people live in rural and small villages. There are about 55 minority in China. 94% of people belong to the Han Nationality. The other nationalities are Tibetan, Mongol, and Uighur. (3) Chinese New Year Festival Uniquely Siingapore

Culture Chinese has made a lot of things such as kites, paper, gunpowder, compass, and abacus. China is also famous for drawing and painting. Long time ago, Chinese drew pictures on the vases that they created. Most of Chinese Buddha so there are lots of Buddha structures. There are caves that showed thousands of Buddhas. Some are over 15m high. Chinese perform arts such as circus acrobats, opera, shadow puppet, and music. Opera is the popular entertainments in China. Operas perform at least 3hours long.(5)

Transformation First, China was a Communist but China started to open up. China let other countries to visit them. When China was communist, governments owned everything but now there are free enterprise which let people to have their own things such as choose own jobs and make a profits. Long time ago in China, women’s position was low . Women only needed to work at house. Now, women could start to work outside. If Chinese have more than one baby they need to pay. This way, it could stop from having large population. The shops started to increase.

China The Great Wall of China Tiananmen Square The Great Wall of China is the longest structure in the world. It is also the world-famous attention. It stretches about 4,000miles (6400km).It was built so the other countries could not attack them. The Great Wall of China is wide and tall. Tiananmen Square Tiananmen Square is the world's largest public square, covering 40ha (98 acres). It is located in Beijing.
