The Learner’s Guide This program is designed to help you learn the third unit in your book, “Free Time and Festivals”. You have two lessons: “Camping” and “Celebrations and Food”. You have here some guidelines: Read the outcomes and ask your teacher about them. Use the hypertext links to move from a slide to another and to answer some questions and exercises. Read the passages and answer the comprehension questions. If you do not know the answer, try again or ask your teacher. You have different kinds of grammar and vocabulary exercises. Try to know how to do them. Then ask for help when you need. Don’t forget to do the test at the end of the unit. Evaluate the program in the rubrics sheet. Your opinion is very important for us. The Teacher’s Guide You have here some guidelines to use the program in the best way: Each lesson is designed to take between 80 to 90 minutes. So be careful for using the time effectively. This unit has a list of outcomes. Read them and help students achieve them. You are given different grammatical tasks. Encourage your students to discover grammar rules themselves and give them the chance of free personal practice. There are some exercises for students to express their opinions. Ask students to discuss those exercises in pairs or small groups to develop their confidence. There is a wide range of types of vocabulary exercise – matching, gap-filling, categorizing, listing and identifying pictures. It is a good idea to encourage students to record vocabulary in special notebooks. Discuss ways of classifying words ( e.g. by theme). Evaluate the program in the rubrics sheet. Introduction This unit broadens students’ general knowledge, through text-based work within the topics, and vocabulary development. It also has a comprehensive language, presenting and reviewing contextualized grammar and providing practice. There are also some opportunities for students to develop critical thinking skills and express their own opinions. This unit, “Free Time and Festivals”, consists of two lessons: “Camping” and “Celebrations and Food”. In each lesson, students are given a passage to read and some comprehension questions to answer. They are also given some grammar and vocabulary exercises. Furthermore, some critical thinking questions are given to students to have the chance of expressing their ideas and opinions. The program aims to avoid the traditional methods of teaching and learning. Students are given the opportunity of learning by computer. So students can be responsible for their self-learning at any time in any place. And teachers can give their voices rest, not talking all the time. PreviousNext

Desert Camping Some Advices Carry a lot of water (4 litres per person per day). Don’t camp on low ground in case of sudden floods. Put a cover over your tent for shade. Wear light- coloured clothes and a hat to protect your head. Take enough food. Wear a belt. It stops sand getting into your clothes. Don’t wear sandals because desert plants are very sharp. Eid Al-Fitr isn’t always on the same date because it follows the calendar of the new moon. In the morning, people go to prayers and this marks the beginning of the celebration. People decorate their homes and welcome family and friends. They wear new clothes and young people receive gifts. It is a time for sitting and eating together. It is also a time when Muslims think about the poor and help them, and a time for forgetting old arguments. The celebrations last for at least three days and schools, shops and offices close.
