Kansai Region  Kyoto was the capital of Japan for over 1000 years.  Osaka is the largest city of the Kansai region  Nara was Japan’s first permanent capital  Himeji is the site of Japan’s most beautiful fuedal castle.  Ise is the site of Japan’s most sacred Shinto shrines.

Chugoku Region  The Chugoku Region is located in the western part of Japan’s main island Honshu.  Hiroshima is the largest city with a tragic history.  Miyajima is a scenic shrine island  Okayama is famous for Korakuen, one of Japan’s three best gardens.  Kurashiki has a historic canal area.  Matsue is a former castle town at the Sanin coast.  Yamaguchi is known as the “Kyoto of the West” Memorial Cenotaph in the Peace Park
