Presentation transcript:

In the United States, All Souls’ Day is a day of prayer for deceased souls. Many Christians visit cemeteries where their loved ones are buried. Some cemeteries offer candles to be placed on these graves. Many families gather and organize a special meal on this day. All Souls’ Day is not a public holiday, but people who live in cities where parades and celebrations are likely to occur may need to check traffic reports on possible congestion or blocked streets.

Some churches in the United Kingdom observe All Souls’ Day and hold special services with music and prayers every year. It is a time for some Christians to remember and pray for family members and friends who passed. Some people visit graves, but All Souls’ Day is not a bank holiday.

All Souls’ Day is not a nationwide public holiday in Canada, but many Christian churches annually mark All Souls’ day as a time to remember deceased family members or friends. Many Christian churches hold special All Souls’ Day services each year, which include songs, sermons, and prayers that reflect the day’s theme. Some churches give their members the opportunity to write the names of loved ones in a prayer request book so that they can be included in special prayers. Some people visit the graves of family members or friends. Some Christian schools and church Sunday schools teach their students about the meaning and significance of this celebration.

In Australia, All Souls’ Day is also known as the Feast of All Souls. It marks a period for some churches to remember the saints in Christian history and to pray for people who died. Some Christian schools teach their students about this celebration. All Souls’ Day is traditionally a time for the Christian community to remember family members and friends. Some churches have special services, which feature hymns, music and prayers about the theme. Some churches invite the congregation to write the names of deceased friends or family members in a special book that is placed on the altar at each mass or service during November. All Souls’ Day is not a nationwide public holiday in Australia either.
