Team Expectations 1.Call in/Log in 10 minutes prior to meeting time. 2.Participate in discussion and complete assignments. 3.Hold side conversations until an appropriate time. 4.Keep an open mind. 5.Remember to mute (*6) and unmute (#6).

Today’s Focus To examine selected research that highlights strategies leading to effective instructional delivery. To determine how the use of these strategies impacts instructional delivery in your school. To effect change in the instructional delivery in your school. 6

Team Reporting 1. Among your team, discuss the following: Identify the area(s) of instructional focus for based on your analysis of the most recent SOL /AYP data. How have these areas of focus been communicated to your staff? How have these areas been incorporated into your Indistar™ school improvement plan? 2. Select one member of your team to respond. 7

What the Research Says about Instructional Delivery The teacher is the strongest predictor of student achievement. (Wright, Horn, and Sanders, 1997) Close relationships with teachers lead to higher student engagement and achievement. (Pianta, 1999) 8

What the Research Says about Instructional Delivery The brain is a social brain. (Caine and Caine, 1991) It responds to ritual, novelty, movement, and emotion. (Jensen, 1998) Students involved in discussion retain information better, apply new knowledge, and develop higher order thinking skills. (Gardiner, 1998) 9
