4 T  The purpose of the Beginning Educator Support Team (BEST) program is to provide support and encouragement for first and second year teachers through collaboration, in order to strengthen their instructional skills and to retain competent teachers in the profession.  Seven districts are part of the ESD 112 Consortium

7 Professional Growth Planning Teacher as Learner….  The intention of a Professional Growth Plan (PGP) is to ensure that the informal plans which teachers formulate for themselves will become explicit, effective, and realistic.  Professional Growth Planning is a process of self-directed inquiry focused on what teachers need to learn and do to improve their practice, resulting in improved student learning.  The PGP should be directly connected to student learning.

8 Step 1: Needs Assessment Use your framework “State Criterion at a glance” to help Identify Goals -Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching -CEL’s 5D+ Teacher Evaluation Rubric  Take 5 minutes individually and highlight descriptors/indicators listed in “State Criterion at a glance” that represent areas of your desired growth.  From the framework, discuss with your mentor and select specific domain (component) or dimension(sub) to focus goal.

10 Step 1 - Needs Assessment  With input from your mentor, identify ONE area of focus that will have a direct impact on student learning this year.  We will write our goals in the SMART format.  Student-centered and specific  Measureable  Attainable  Realistic  Timebound

13 Step 1 – Needs Assessment  Writing a SMART goal  I will use engagement strategies to increase the reading scores of ELL students by 25 points as evidenced by Measurements of Student Progress in the Spring of 2015.  All Native American students who I counsel will improve their attendance by 50% or more by May, 2015.  I will create a positive environment and increase learning time by decreasing the time it takes for my students to consistently transition within the science lab to 1 minute before the start of 2 nd semester.  I will use differentiation to increase the math scores of ALL students by 25 points as evidenced by Measurements of Student Progress in the Spring of 2015.  80% of my students will participate in Project REACH in the spring of 2015 and demonstrate proficiency on a 4-tiered rubric measuring research and presentation skills.  100% of my students will use SMART Notebook to present their science projects in March of 2015.  100% of all parent communication I send home will be in English and Spanish.
