METHODS Research based on previous findings from the Miami University Office of Institutional Research Interviews conducted with current international students at Miami Personal experience with studying abroad and Global Buddies program

RESULTS – CULTURAL KNOWLEDGE Miami is not a diverse campus International students rarely assimilate Lack of clubs/organizations with international students

RESULTS – CULTURAL KNOWLEDGE Global Buddies Program  Student-led organization  Patronizing?  Dependent on dedication of both parties  Outreach somewhat haphazard

RESULTS – CLASSROOM English isn’t AS important Conversational English isn’t enough  Technical jargon  Lectures

ALTERNATIVES Do nothing Offer cultural education courses  Assist in adjusting to life Buddy program  Improve language and cultural acclimation Bonding of int’l and domestic students  Same major  Global Buddies

CONCLUSIONS Our recommendation: Improve Global Buddies Program Institute major-based English courses
