NASA Vision 1963 The Goal of Sending a Man to the Moon (May 25, 1961) Special Session before the Joint House of Congress John Fitzgerald Kennedy ….. ”But this is not merely a race. Space is open to us now; and our eagerness to share its meaning is not governed by the efforts of others. We go into space because whatever mankind must undertake, free men must fully share. I therefore ask the Congress, above and beyond the increases I have earlier requested for space activities, to provide the funds which are needed to meet the following national goals: First, I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth. No single space project in this period will be more impressive to mankind, or more important for the long-range exploration of space; and none will be so difficult or expensive to accomplish……”

NASA Vision Mission 2006 Vision: To improve life here, to extend life to there, to find life beyond. Mission: To understand and protect our home planet, to explore the universe, and search for life, to inspire the next generation of explorers, as only NASA can.

NASA Vision Mission 2011 Vision: To reach for new heights and reveal the unknown so that what we do and learn will benefit all humankind. Mission: Drive advances in science, technology, and exploration to enhance knowledge, education, innovation, economic vitality, and stewardship of the Earth.
