Wolves

The Timber Wolf The grey wolf as a mammal also shares a common ancestry as the common household dog. The Height of an average grey wolf is around 0.6 – 0.95 metres. Their weight is usually around 20 – 68 KG however one was recorded to be 79 kg. the females tend to weigh 20% less than male timber wolves. The length of a wolf can be anywhere between 1.3 to 2 metres.

The Red Wolf Unlike other wolves the red wolf only stay in small packs between 2 – 10 members. By 1980 the red wolf was considered extinct in the wild and only 15 wolves were in a conservation program to save the species. Today there are only 275 – 300 red wolves alive. About 220 of those are captive

Territorial Behaviour The average size of a packs territory is about 200 m2. prey tends to be more plentiful in the surrounding areas of the territory however wolves rarely venture outside of their surroundings out of the possible collide of neighbouring packs. The figures show that 14–65% of wolf deaths were due to predation by other wolves in fact, 91% of wolf fatalities occur within 3.2km of the borders between neighbouring territories

Scent Marking Wolves, like other canines, use scent marking to lay claim to anything from territory to fresh kills

Packs Wolves are a pack animal and will stay together and defend each other.
