Henri Matisse Collage Using line, shapes and color (elements of art)

Elements of art Lines, shape, form, color, space, texture, and value They are the building blocks for creating art You can use them by themselves or combine more then one together. Its all up to you!

Why the elements of art are so important No elements, no art, end of story. Secondly, knowing what the elements of art are enables us to (1) describe what an artist has done, (2) analyze what is going on in a particular piece and (3) communicate our thoughts and findings using a common language.

Lets find elements of art being used Take a art example off of your desk Work in groups for five minutes and find as many elements of art as you can.

Guess what it is about This will take about ten minutes. Work in your group (1) describe what an artist has done. What did they create. (2) analyze what is going on in the particular piece found on your desk (3) communicate what you think that the art was about. Why they did it? Lets discuss to the class what each piece is and how the elements of art help tell their story

What is abstract art Abstract art is visual rather than having literary meaning Abstract art includes-Romanticism, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, and ExpressionismRomanticismImpressionism Post-ImpressionismExpressionism Artists come out of these periods and develop other types of art Out of abstract art comes cubism, which is then developed into Fauvism

What was the Fauvist movement? Dominated by two artists, Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso abandoned three-dimensional effects in favor of dramatically simplified areas of pure color, flat shapes, and strong pattern. Believed color to be expressive on its own

Who is Henri Matisse b. Dec. 31, d. Nov. 3, 1954 artist often regarded as the most important French painter of the 20th century. The leader of the Fauvist movement around 1900,Fauvist pursued the expressiveness of colour throughout his career. His subjects were largely domestic or figurative Used shapes without drawing

What kind of art did Matisse make? Painting to collage His collages were often called sculpting with scissors because he did not draw out his figures. Create paper cuts because he was too weak to move around in his old age
