CLASSROOM DESIGN: KINDERGARTEN Amanda Palmi September 28, 2014

Security and Shelter Security and Shelter is filling children’s physical and psychological needs. Here there are comfortable chairs and stuffed animals for the children to sit in and hold during reading time.

Social Contact Social contact is about giving children the chance to have interactions with each other. Here in the writing center, the table is set up for children to help each other work on their writing as well as a white board for children to make sentences together.

Symbolic Identification Symbolic Identification refers to something the children and teacher identify with in the classroom. Here the children’s names are listed on owls, and often Mrs. Rodney refers to being an owl during here classroom management.

Task Instrumentality Task Instrumentality refers to the organization in the classroom. This wall opens to reveal the storage for all the children’s backpacks and coats. The crayon chart tells the children where they are going for centers, and the number line is used during math.

Growth Growth refers to showing how the children are developing through the year. Here Mrs. Rodney has bulletin boards set up for children to show their work.

Pleasure Pleasure refers to anything for the children to make them more comfortable. Here are bins from the reading area with blocks for the children to play with. This is also present in the stuffed animals in the reading area and children’s names on a birthday board.
