8/17/2014 pm Parable Of The Talents Matthew 25:14-30 Micky Galloway

The Parable Of The Talents A talent was a large amount of money! 1 Talent = 6,000 Denarii 1 Denarius = One day’s wage. (Baker’s Encyclopedia of the Bible) 1 Talent man received 6,000 day’s wages (16.4383562 years) 2 Talent man received 12,000 day’s wages (32.8767123 years) 5 Talent man received 30,000 days’ wages. (82.191781 years)

The Parable Of The Talents Parable of the talents analyzed. Not all endowed alike. Matthew 25:15 “And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one.”

The Parable Of The Talents Parable of the talents analyzed. Not all produce alike. Matthew 25:16-18 “he that received the five talents went and traded with them, and made other five talents. In like manner he also that (received) the two gained other two. But he that received the one went away and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money.”

The servant with five talents worked hard. He earned five more talents. He now had ten talents. (160 + years wages) The servant with two talents also worked hard. He earned two more talents. He now had four talents. (65 + years wages)

The servant with one talent (16 + years wages) buried it in the ground The servant with one talent (16 + years wages) buried it in the ground. He was afraid he would lose it. He did not work to earn any more talents.

The Parable Of The Talents Parable of the talents analyzed. Not all rewarded alike. Matthew 25:21,23 “Well done, good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”

The Parable Of The Talents Parable of the talents analyzed. Not all rewarded alike. Matthew 25:26, 28, 30 “Thou wicked and slothful servant … Take ye away therefore the talent from him … and cast ye out the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.”

The Parable Of The Talents Day of reckoning … Matthew 25:19 “Now after a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and maketh a reckoning with them.” cf. Matthew 25:5 See Romans 14:12; 2 Corinthians 5:10; 1 Thessalonians 4:16; Acts 1:11; 17:31.

The Parable Of The Talents Reward of faithfulness = increased trust. cf. John 15:2; Luke 16:10-12; Revelation 22:3

The Parable Of The Talents Reward of faithlessness = removed trust. Matthew 25:24-30 “I was afraid, and went away” cf. Genesis 3:8; Revelation 21:8 “and hid thy talent (singular) in the earth” Safe place. “lo, thou hast thine own.” At least I did not lose it.

The Parable Of The Talents Rebuke: Matthew 25:26 “Thou wicked and slothful servant” NEGLECT “Use it or lose it!” True materially. True physically. True mentally. True spiritually. True individually or congregationally.

The Parable Of The Talents Parable of the talents applied. Excuses are made by the “wicked and lazy” (NKJV) Matthew 25:25-26

The Parable Of The Talents Parable of the talents applied. Place of punishment is reserved for the unprofitable servants. Matthew 25:30 OMISSION as bad as COMISSION. Those who do evil will experience “weeping and gnashing of teeth” Matthew 13:41-42 But also those who do nothing! Matthew 25:30
