2 Matthew 25:14-15 Parable of the Talents
“For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property. To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away. Matthew 25:14-15

3 Talents are not abilities
They are God Given Responsibilities and Opportunities

4 Jesus is giving instruction
This is a Call to Action

5 Matthew 25:16-18 Parable of the Talents
The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money. Matthew 25:16-18

6 He Gave Each to His Ability
Each chose what they did.

7 Matthew 25:19-25 Parable of the Talents
“After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.’ “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ Matthew 25:19-25

8 Matthew 25:19-25 Parable of the Talents
“The man with two bags of gold also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.’ “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ Matthew 25:19-25

9 Matthew 25:19-25 Parable of the Talents
“Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’ Matthew 25:19-25

10 The Master will come back
He will demand an accounting

11 Luke 16:1-2 Parable of the Talents
“His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest. “‘So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. Luke 16:1-2

12 Luke 16:1-2 Parable of the Talents
For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ Luke 16:1-2

13 There is Joy Or there is being cast out.

14 Spiritual Principle: Real Life Principle:
Talents represent the responsibilities and opportunity that God has given you to carry out. Real Life Principle: We are to work until he comes back, using all of our energy faithfulness and love for the King.

15 Parable of the Talents Success is a Product of our Work. We are to work, using our talents to glorify God, serve the common good, and further God’s kingdom. Biblical success is working diligently in the here and now producing a return based on the responsibilities he has given us.

16 Parable of the Talents God always gives us everything we need to do what he has called us to do Just as the master expected his servants to do more than passively preserve what has been entrusted to them, so God expects us to generate a return by using our talents towards productive ends. The servants were given enough to produce more

17 For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. -- Eph. 2:10” Ephesians 2:10

18 Parable of the Talents We work for the Master, not our own selfish purposes The money that is given to the servants is not their own. The money they earn with the capital is not theirs to keep. The servants are only stewards of the master’s investment, and it is the quality of their stewardship that the master seeks to measure.

19 Parable of the Talents We will be held accountable The Parable of the Talents is not about salvation or works righteousness, but about how we use our work to fulfill our earthly callings. It is about whole-life stewardship. The unfaithful steward in this parable didn’t so much waste the master’s money – he wasted an opportunity. As a result, he was judged wicked and lazy.

21 Working with Talents Whatever you do, you are doing that work for the King. In service of the King we are expected to hear a command and act God normally calls us to areas of service that match ability Look at your feet, and you know your present calling
