THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU START THE UNIT ON TROLLING… WHERE DOES THE NAME TROLLING COME FROM? WHAT IS TROLLING? WHAT IS SOCIAL NETWORKING? WHAT IS ANTI SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR? Answers revealed on mouse click.

A troll is a supernatural being in Norse mythology and Scandinavian folklore. According to old Norse sources, beings described as trolls dwell in caves on isolated mountains. WHERE DOES THE NAME TROLLING COME FROM?

There is a famous story about the Three Billy Goats Gruff and the wicked troll. It tells the tale of three billy goats who outwitted a wicked troll who lived under a bridge. They fooled him to get to the other side of the bridge, where the grass was sweeter, and the biggest goat managed to butt him into the river.

WHAT IS TROLLING? A HIJACKING! HAS TAKEN PLACE! The Internet community hijacked the term troll and used it as a name for someone who attacks peoples’ ideas on the Internet, or tries to hurt others by posting insulting comments, photographs or videos.

WHAT IS SOCIAL NETWORKING? There are hundreds of social networking sites, where you can post personal details and ideas, post photographs and videos and chat in real time, on-line. Some of the most famous ones in use at the moment are Facebook, Twitter and Bebo.
