ESSENTIAL VOCABULARY Cash – liquid money Ecash, digital cash, cybercash – digital cash in the new economy Smart cards – holds this kind of cash and can be PREPAID, DISPOSABLE OR RELOADABLE. Top up – put more money into the phone

1. What do you need to do before you can use your E top-up card? Call your server and then follow the simple instructions. Key in the 13 digit number along the centre of the E top up card.

2. What is a top-up point? It can be one of the 100,000 shops displaying the green top-up logo.

3. How can you find a top-up point in the UK? Because of the green logo.

4. Is topping up something you can do quickly? Yes – once you have paid, your top-up will be credited to your phone in minutes.

6. Is it a problem if you lose your card? No, it’s secure – if you lose your card you get a new one. It’s normally safe as it can only add credit to your mobile.

7. Is it possible to top up someone else’s phone? You can link up to five cards to your phone for friends and family to top-up for you.

8. If you can’t find a top-up point, is it possible to top up your card in some other way? Via the web, text message and bank machine.

9. Where can you get information about the different ways of topping up? From the server’s website.

10. When would you use a voucher? If you leave behind your top up swipe card, you buy a voucher from the retailer, then follow the instructions after dialling your server, until you are asked to key in the voucher number on the receipt.

SUMMARY Mobile phone users make the most use of top-up cards. Before you can use your card you must call the server then follow the instructions. You can use top-up points to do it for you. Topping up is very quick. If you lose your top-up card you can get a new one. You can link up to five cards to your phone for friends and family to top- up for you. You can use text message or the bank machine. It is secure and there are a lot of top-up shops in the UK. If you forget your card you can use vouchers instead.
