Coaching at Haddon Primary School The journey begins..… together

Bastow Institute of Educational Leadership Establishing Literacy Coaching Goals To provide access to current research and perspectives To develop deeper understandings – what does it mean to become powerfully literate? To increase confidence and capacity in coaching conversations To foster teacher leadership and coaching expertise to strengthen learning and teaching in schools

Participants Schools who have had internal coaches Schools who have had external coaches Schools who have not had coaches before Graduate, Accomplished and Expert teachers Leading Teachers, Assistant Principals and Principals Primary and Secondary schools

Why Coaching? Develops individual and group capacity to engage in creative problem solving and self reflection Supports teachers in their learning Challenges teacher thinking Provides a focus for teacher learning

Who? Individual teachers pairs Teams

A coach ….. works with individuals and teams negotiates with teachers on an area for improvement uses data to focus on the learning conversations with teachers secures teacher learning providing a focus for development Provides a supportive environment for conversations

A coach…. develops professional relationships uses data and Evidence engages in substantive conversations promotes and supports purposeful instruction works towards school improvement continues self development

When and Where Weekly individual conversations in teacher’s office PLT meetings to focus on student data and areas for improvement

Partnerships Teachers are learners Professional learning for individuals Coaching model will depend on the the needs of the teacher
