Goal To provide guidelines for facilities that allow for: Manipulation Production Communication of information by all members of the learning community.

Principle 1 Facilities need to be: Aligned with educational objectives Designed for flexible access

Evaluating Principle 1 Exemplary Program Space allocation for 500 – 2000 students At least 8000 sq. ft. plus 3.0 sq. ft. per student in excess of 500 Below Standard Program Space allocation for 500 – 2000 students Less than 3000 sq. ft. plus 3.0 sq. ft. per student in excess of 500

Evaluating Principle 1 Exemplary Program Facilities are designed with the input of a variety of stakeholders and professionals. Familiar with Commissioner’s Rules Networks with other librarians at the local, regional, state, national level Below Standard Program No input in facility design Not familiar with Commissioner’s Rules Does not network with other librarians

Principle 2 Library designed to serve as a: Functional Flexible Barrier Free Simultaneous – Use For individuals, small groups, classes, and maximize the use of available space for displays.

Evaluating Principle 2 Exemplary Program 90% welcoming & appealing displays contributed by students 90% of shelving is adjustable At least 25% extra shelve space Provides display space Meets technology infrasturcture standards on STaRCharts Target Tech Level 90% of furniture is comfortable, age- appropriate, and ergonomical Libaray provides access to 100% of special need learners Below Standard Program <55% welcoming & appealing displays contributed by students <55% of shelving is adjustable No extra shelve space Provides little or no display space Meets technology infrasturcture standards on STaRCharts Early Tech Level <55% of furniture is comfortable, age- appropriate, and ergonomical Libaray provides access to <100% of special need learners
