Introducing the Project Qualifications

What are Projects? New standalone qualifications Sits alongside GCE or GCSE A compulsory part of the new Diploma Can be used for reporting purposes Has UCAS points at level 3 Has been built on a successful pilot Can be used as a replacement for AEA Is 100% internally assessed – no external exam

What are the levels for Projects? Available at 3 levels: Level 1 Foundation Equivalent to ½ GCSE and graded A*-B Level 2 Higher Equivalent to ½ GCSE and graded A*-C Level 3 Extended Equivalent to ½ GCE and graded A*-E

Benefits of offering Projects Participation and engagement Stretch and challenge Progression to GCE / HE Personalised learning and assessment Motivation and recognition

Why offer Projects? By undertaking a Project learners will: Develop independent learning skills Learn how to be an effective group member Improve oral and written communication skills Develop investigative skills Learn how to be a critical thinker Become confident in project management

Final outcome Level 1 & 2 – one outcome Project Process the same for all units Level 3 – choice from 4 outcomes/units Dissertation Investigation/Field Study Performance Artefact

What learners are required to do Project Conduct research using appropriate techniques Produce a plan showing how they will achieve intended outcome Identify objective(s) in the form of a question or brief and provide a rationale for choice of objective(s) Select a topic/area of interest, and negotiate with tutor scope of the project Develop their project See the project through to completion Review the project process (this includes an oral presentation at Level 3)
