Antarctica A Continent of Ice

A picture taken from space. The tip of South America. The edge of Australia.

There are mountains of ice. In Antarctica there are huge mountains made of ice. These mountains sometimes break apart from the ice-land and become icebergs.

Many birds live in Antarctica. Emperior Penguin Skuas Snow Petrels Blue Eyed Shags

Many Seals live in Antarctica. There are many types of seals. Here are pictures of the Southern Fur Seals, Crabeater Seals and Weddell Seal.

Scientist live in Antarctica for part of the year. These are pictures of where the scientist live when they visit Antarctica. They must grow or ship in all food because there is no dirt.

Work is never easy in a land of ice and snow. The scientist work hard to live and learn in this cold land. They must always be careful of ice that is too thick or too thin.

But they always find time to play and enjoy the beauty.
