Giving a presentation

Let’s look at some presentations Bad presentation What did he do wrong? –Too many words on the slides, spelling mistakes –Poorly prepared and too nervous > lost his place, repetitive –The paper was shaking > should not have used paper –Talk had a bad structure –Did not use the technology well –Bumped into furniture –“Wassup guys” –Laughed at the stupidity of his own content –His phone was on –AND HE ANSWERED IT

Great presentation

What did he do well? –Great images –Humour –He spoke with the audience, not to the audience What did he do badly? –Black shirt –Content > why didn’t he talk about the barracuda?

Great presentation How can you achieve a similar standard? –Don’t write too many words on your slides Unlike my audience, your audience will never read your slides again, so it doesn’t matter if there are no words –Use lots of images –Be friendly and warm –Be the expert Does anyone else know what you are talking about? Obviously the answer is “no” Therefore, you ARE the expert –Rehearse: pair up with a friend and video your presentations one week before it is due Watch carefully and make changes, rehearse again

How to do it right
