Rock Cycle

The Rock Cycle 6-4-13 Key Question: Where does rock come from, and are there different kinds? Initial Thoughts:

Evidence #1: Dice Game Paste your log into your journal You will roll a minimum of10 times, and follow the directions on the dice at each station. Record each step in your log.

Stations #1 Compaction and Cementation #2 High Temperature and Pressure #3 Sediments #4 Igneous Rock #5 To The Surface #6 Metamorphic Rock #7 Sedimentary Rock #8 Melting #9 Cooling and Hardening #10 Magma #11 Weathering and Erosion

Evidence #2: Diagram Use the powerpoint to create the rock cycle. Color the pieces using the following key: Sedimentary Rock – Brown Sediments – Brown/Black Cooling and Hardening – Blue Igneous Rock – Black with dark black spots Weathering and Erosion – Blue Metamorphic Rock – Black Pressing and Cementing – Blue Melting – Red Magma – Red Heat and Pressure - Red

Analysis Questions Why is the rock cycle called a “cycle”? What parts of the rock cycle happen underground and out of our sight? What parts can we see happening? Look at the rock cycle diagram. Generally, what happens to a rock in order to become igneous? Sedimentary? Metamorphic?

Summary What did you think about where rocks come from and the types before this lesson? What did you learn about where rocks come from and the types from this lesson? (Minimum of 3 sentences!!!) What are some further thoughts or questions you have about where rocks come from and the types?

Reflection Draw a comic strip of a rock going through the rock cycle
