Basics

 An address for a Web site is its domain name  URL (Uniform Resource Locator)  Specifies the precise location of a resource on the Internet

4  Your Web browser communicates with Web servers using the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP)  The URLs for all Web pages must start with the scheme “http”  Other Internet resources use different protocols and have different scheme names

5 A sample URL for a Web page

 Your domain name is your calling card  Short, sweet and easy to spell  Shortened version of your name may not always be the best solution  Customers who know you by your full name may be confused

 Domain names are not case sensitive  DeesDesktop.com and deesdesktop.com are the same  Keying the “D’s” is for readability and for printed works

 Search for a domain name     Always check for sites with close variations to your choice  Hosting   Privacy

 Many countries in the world have their own domain .us – United States .br – Brazil .uk – United Kingdom .tv - ? Any Idea what this might stand for? Tuvalu

 Copyright is a form of protection provided by the laws of the United States (title 17, U. S. Code) to the authors of “original works of authorship,” including literary, dramatic, musical, artistic, and certain other intellectual works. This protection is available to both published and unpublished works. Section 106 of the 1976 Copyright Act generally gives the owner of copyright the exclusive right to do and to authorize others to do the following:

 The purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes  The nature of the copyrighted work  The amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole  The effect of the use upon the potential market for, or value of, the copyrighted work

 If you wish to link to another’s:  Work  Recording  Web site Always get Permission

17  To create a link to a file located in a different folder than the current document, you must specify the file’s location, or path, so that browsers can find it  HTML supports two kinds of paths: relative and absolute  An absolute path specifies a file’s precise location within a computer’s entire folder structure

18  A relative path specifies a file’s location in relation to the location of the current document  If the file is in the same location as the current document, you do not have to specify the folder name  If the file is in a subfolder of the current document, you have to include the name of the subfolder

19  If you want to go one level up the folder tree, you start the relative path with a double period (..) then provide the name of the file  To specify a different folder on the same level, known as a sibling folder, you move up the folder tree using the double period (..) and then down the tree using the name of the sibling folder  You should almost always use relative paths in your links

20  The base element is useful when a document is moved to a new folder. Rather than rewriting all of the relative paths to reflect the document’s new location, the base element can redirect browsers to the document’s old location, allowing any relative paths to be resolved  The base element is useful when you want to create a copy of a single page from a large Web site on another Web server

24  A storyboard is a scene-by-scene drawing of the sequence of action.  Storyboards tell the story visually with enough detail for developers to know what to build.

25  Static – No action elements indicated. Used for a graphical design such as a logo or page banner.  Animatic – Indicating action, movement, camera angles, or the passage of time. Typically used in making movies.

26  Sample storyboard layout when multiple pages or scenes are part of the design. Navigation Buttons Main Menu Details Screen Name

27  Easier and cheaper to produce and test ideas on paper before production.  Easier to generate alternate ideas as you think of them.  Effective tool to check that the finished product is what it should be!
