Alabama by the numbers Alabama practices met 5 of the 13 goals in just two months of data collection –use of a validated instrument to determine current level of asthma control –Patients in which reasons for lack of asthma control is identified when asthma control is ‘not well controlled’ or ‘poorly controlled’ –stepwise approach is used to identify treatment and treat or maintain therapy based on asthma control –use of flu shot for patients over the age of 6 months –and follow up appointment to monitor asthma

Number of patient encounters in EQIPP entered increased from 390 to 465 in just one data cycle (19% increase)

Alabama by the numbers 100% of practices have been on each call 100% of practices have completed QI basics and entered data All of this has occurred despite H1N1 hitting Alabama extremely hard adding to the winter rush for all of our practices!

PDSA 100% of practices are now familiar with the PDSA concept of testing small changes to improve quality 100% of practices have participated in these tests of change in at least 2 areas—using a standard encounter format and supplying patients with written asthma control plans The rapid adoption of these concepts among Alabama practices is incredible and has already begun to improve the quality of asthma care!
