Another Tool in the Toolbox

Tool Use Save Water Manipulate Water Quality Manipulate Water Quantity for Waste Treatment Save Energy Reduce Footprint/Save Space

Save Water Some hatcheries have a limited water supply Reuse allows hatchery to maximize fish production on a limited water supply

Manipulate Water Quality Allows manipulation of certain water quality parameters such as temperature so you have more control over your fish production Heat water to accelerate development and growth Cool water to slow down development and growth

Manipulate Water Quantity for Waste Treatment Reduced water usage make it easier to treat waste effluent

Save Energy If water is being pumped, less water used equals less energy used

Reduce Footprint/Save Space Some hatcheries are space limited. Reuse can concentrate fish production in a smaller area and reduce space constraints. May also allow for consolidating hatchery processes

WHY REUSE?
