Catherine (17) is interested in reading Gothic novels She imagines all sorts of cruel happenings e.g. getting caught by a man who looks like a vampire, Cathy= victim She is invited to Bath with Mr and Mrs Allen At a ball she meets Mr Tilney and is head over heels in love Her brother is in love with Isabella Thorpe, a false-faced woman Isabella’s brother tells lies about Catherine Catherine is invited to Northanger Abbey She suspects Mr Tilney’s father to be a murderer Mr Tilney catches her spying in the abbey Though they like one another, they are separated by Mr Tilney’s father (due to lies by Mr Thorpe) At the end Mr Tilney is allowed to propose to Catherine
