Inquiry lab layout

Experimental design What will we test How will we test Why are we testing

Background research What have you learned while researching this information in preparation for the lab What former experiment is relevant

Purpose/Problem What do you want to do or find out? Be Specific

Variables Independent Variable: What is being changed for or throughout the experiment Dependent Variable: The variable that acts in response to the change in the IV

Constants What will be held steady for the experiment: – Temp – pH – Solutions – Location – Organism – Etc etc

Control group vs. Experimental group Will there be variation between subjects

Repeated Trials How many times was this experiment run Averages for data? Compare to real world conditions

Hypothesis Testable statement related to the problem – Written as basically an if/then statement, – NO I statements

Procedure Layout of the experiment What are you changing in the experimental group How are you testing or changing the variable How many trials Outline steps so it can be repeated

Results Data Qualitative is a description Quantitative is hard data, numbers etc Tables and charts Graphs Images

Conclusion What have you learned What have you discovered What can you conclude How does this relate to the hypothesis Flaws? Errors?

Future How could this experiment be improved? Any ideas for future study? Real World implications/applications
