 He is one of the best short-story writers that the world has ever seen  He was born in France  He produced 300 stories,6 novels,3 plays in the 1880s  He liked to include a surprise ending in his stories  He died of madness at the young age of 43.

How well did you know? 2.Mathilde didn’t feel on top of the world when she knew they were invited to a ball. 1. Mathilde was a charming girl but married a man of low social status( 社会地位 ). 3. Mathilde’s husband managed to give her some money for a beautiful dress.

5. Mathilde was a great success at the party, and became the centre of attention. 6. Mathilde found her necklace gone after they came back from the party 7.They borrowed money to buy a diamond necklace to return to Madame Forestier. 4. Mathilde’s husband suggested borrowing some jewels from their friend.

9.Madame Forestier could hardly recognize Mathilde when she met her years later. 8.Mathilde had to work day and night for ten years to pay off their debts. 10.Mathilde was told that the diamond necklace she lost was a fake.
