Contents Standards in Project Management PMBOOK 4 (that we will use) vs PMBOOK 5 (latest) A guide to PMBOK 4 How it was developed Content Organization

Standards in Project Management 4 major process oriented standards: ISO 21500:2012 Guidance on Project Management by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) technical committee dealing with project management, ISO/PC 236. Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) by Project Management Institute (PMI). PRINCE2 by Office of Government Commerce (OGC). HERMES by The Swiss Federal Strategy Unit for IT (FSUIT).

ISO 21500:2012, Guidance on Project Management An international standard developed by the ISO starting in 2007 and released in 2012. Intended to provide generic guidance, explain core principles and what constitutes good practice in project management. The ISO technical committee dealing with project management, ISO/PC 236 was held by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) which had approved four standards that used PMI materials. ANSI/PMI 99-001-2008, A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge - 4th Edition (PMI BoK® Guide - 4th Edition) (revision and re-designation of ANSI/PMI 99-001-2004): 11/20/2008.[2] ISO 21500 the first in a family of project management standards. ISO align this with other related standards such as ISO 10006:2003 Quality management systems - Guidelines for quality management in projects ISO 10007:2003 Quality management systems - Guidelines for configuration management ISO 31000:2009, Risk management – Principles and guidelines. Since ISO 21500:2012 is a guidance document, it is not intended to be used for certification/registration purposes. http://www.iso.org/iso/catalogue_detail.htm?csnumber=50003

Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) A Guide book by the Project Management Institute (PMI) which presents a set of standard terminology and guidelines for project management. To some extent based on earlier work that began with a white paper published in 1983 called the "Ethics, Standards, and Accreditation Committee Final Report." Editions First published PMI) in 1996. Second edition was published in 2000. Third Edition was published In 2004. The Fourth edition was published in 2009. The latest is Fifth Edition and was released in 2013. Earlier versions were recognized as standards by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) which assigns standards United States (ANSI/PMI 99-001-2008) Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE 1490-2011). http://www.pmi.org/PMBOK-Guide-and-Standards.aspx

PRINCE2 by UK Office of Government Commerce (OGC). Acronym for PRojects IN Controlled Environments, ver 2 - project mgmt. methodology. Encompasses the high level management, control and organisation of a project, not lower level activities such as scheduling. Derives from an earlier method called PROMPT and from the PRINCE project-management method, developed in 1989 by the Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency (CCTA) as a UK Government standard for information systems (IT) project management. Released in 1996 as a generic project management method. Popular in many UK government departments and the United Nations. Since 2006, the method has been revised. It launched as "PRINCE2:2009 Refresh" in 2009. The name "PRINCE2" (instead of "PRINCE3" or similar) remains to indicate that the method remains faithful to its principles. https://www.axelos.com/prince2

HERMES 5 by SWISS Federal Admin A project management method for IT, services, products and business organisations Developed by Switzerland's Federal Administration. An open standard available to all - cantons, cities, educational institutions and private sector companies An open eGovernment Switzerland Programme Office (eGov) standard, no. 0054 and is the standard in the Federal Administration for project management. http://www.hermes.admin.ch/
