BIOGRAPHY: Father was a French lawyer and owned a prosperous gas station, his mother was French and Scottish. He attended a rich private religious school, his father died when he was a teenager. He travelled the world after graduating including England, France and the US. Has been described as an “intellectual rebel, anti- establishment advocate, supporting unions and religious freedom”.

BIOGRAPHY CONT… He received a law degree at university and was trained in the army during WWII but did not serve abroad In his younger years, he was banned from entering the US because he attended a conference in Moscow (USSR) and due to his leftist views. Became Canadian Minister of Justice and decriminalized homosexuality, abortion, contraception, lotteries and instituted laws in which gun ownership was restricted and breathalyzers were legally allowed to be used against drunk drivers.
