ELECTRICAL ENGINEERS KENDALL HIMEL INTRO TO ENGINEERING 4TH

JOB DESCRIPTION economy; quality; reliability; safety; sustainability. The electrical equipment that they design and manufacture is used across many sectors, including: the building industry and services, including lighting, heating and ventilation; transportation and transport networks; manufacturing and construction; production and distribution of power. Electrical engineers are involved in projects from the concept and detail of the design, through to implementation, testing and handover. They may be involved in maintenance programs. As well as having technical knowledge, electrical engineers need to be able to project manage and multitask. They also need to have commercial awareness. Additional attributes, such as team leadership or management skills, are required as careers progress.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS a four-year bachelor's degree microwave engineering or power systems theory and design/lab work. two-year master's degree computer programming, engineering economy, electrical circuits, thermodynamics, numerical analysis and engineering materials. calculus, technical writing and engine/machinery technologies integrated circuits robotics and communication systems

TYPICAL WAGES Median annual wages for electrical engineers are $82,160, to $91,820 according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics.

SKILLS AND CHARACTERISTICS 1) Active Listening -- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. 2) Troubleshooting -- Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it. 3) Critical Thinking -- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. 4) Reading Comprehension -- Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents. 5) Technology Design -- Generating or adapting equipment and technology to serve user needs. 6) Complex Problem Solving -- Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

JOB OUTLOOK Employment of electrical and electronics engineers is projected to grow 4 percent from 2012 to 2022, slower than the average for all occupations. Job growth is expected because of electrical and electronics engineers’ versatility in developing and applying emerging technologies. On the other hand, employment growth could be tempered by slow growth or decline in most manufacturing sectors in which electrical and electronics engineers are employed. Job growth for electrical and electronics engineers will largely occur in engineering services firms, because more companies are expected to cut costs by contracting engineering services rather than directly employing engineers. These engineers will also experience job growth in computer systems design, as these industries continue to implement more powerful portable computing devices.

PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS Engineering professional organizations provide important support to engineers. These groups work to advocate on behalf of engineers, provide professional development opportunities, publish updates on the latest innovations, and connect engineers to the community. Anyone pursuing a Master of Engineering Management degree would benefit from becoming a member of at least one of these organizations. Below find the top 10 engineering associations, which serve both the general profession of engineering as well as specific industries within the field. Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET): Responsible for accrediting engineering degree programs, this organization works to ensure the quality of engineering education. They also work to facilitate innovation in engineering through consulting with educational institutions and communicating with the public. The ABET’s work in promoting only the finest engineering programs helps engineers narrow the choice among accredited schools. Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET):
