Thematic Maps! How do I interpret different kinds of maps? Interpret = to make sense of a map Physical Political

Expectations 1.Add definitions 2.Color/Label the Key 3.Add the colors to the map like the ones in the atlas and book.

1. Land Cover/Vegetation - Atlas pg 26 1.Show trees and grasses that cover the land (or don’t) 2.Show crops planted by people 3.What covers the land affects where people live and how they use the land

2. Elevation - Book page Show how high or low the land is 2. 0 ft is at “sea level,” or flat 3. The level of the land affects where people live and how they use the land

3. Rainfall – Atlas page All living things need water 2. Where rain is scarce, life is limited 3. Patterns of rainfall affect what can grow and how people live
