Vocabulary Words Landform- Examples; mountains and hills.An area of the Earth’s surface with a definite shape. Examples; mountains and hills.
Vocabulary Words Mountain- a landform that rises more than 2,000 feet above sea level and is wide at the bottom and narrow at the peak.
Vocabulary Words Hill- a landform that rises above the surrounding land and has a rounded top. A hill is lower and usually less steep than a mountain.
Vocabulary Words Plateau - a large, mostly flat area that rises above the surrounding land; at least one side has a steep slope.
Vocabulary Words Plain- a large area of flat or gently rolling land, usually without many trees.
Vocabulary Words Plate tectonics- the theory that the Earth’s crust is made of huge, slowly moving slabs of rocks called plates.
Vocabulary Words Plate- a huge section of the Earth’s crust.
Vocabulary Words Weathering- the breaking down of rocks by wind, rain, or ice.
Vocabulary Words Erosion- a process by which water, wind, or ice wears away landforms and carries the material to another place.
Vocabulary Words Atmosphere- the multilayered band of gases that surrounds the Earth
Vocabulary Words Temperature- How hot or cold the air feels
Vocabulary Words Precipitation- Water that falls to the ground as rain, hail, or snow.
Vocabulary Words Climate- Average weather of a place over many years.
Vocabulary Words Weather- The day to day conditions of the atmosphere.
Vocabulary Words Vegetation- Plants that grow naturally in a specific area.
Vocabulary Words Pangaea- theory that the Earth once had a single landmass that broke apart to form today’s separate continents. Super-continent.
