Solving Subtraction Equations SWBAT solve subtraction equations by using the inverse operation.

Warm Up Remember—Show ALL work. I need to see inverse operations x = = 6 + x x = 98

Subtraction Equations Yesterday we talked about inverse operations. We used inverse operations to find the solution to addition equations. If we used subtraction to solve addition equations, what do you think we would do to solve an equation with subtraction? Ex: x – 9 = 12 To solve subtraction problems, we will use the inverse operation–addition.

Practice x – 12 = 3 19 = x – 8 x – 5 = 29 x – 42 = 17 9 = x - 30 N + 12 = 74 N – 24 = 6 97 = x + 32

Exit Ticket 1. b – 9 = x + 14 = = x – = a – 18
