Did you know it’s Okay to be an individual ? By year 4

Let our class explain. We believe that we are all important and that we all have special gifts. We know through our assemblies and PSHE lessons that we should respect each other and we understand that some times what we say can hurt others.

As part of our topic on relationships we had a story about a group of story life forms. This group were called the Huey’s. All the Huey’s dressed the same and acted the same until one day… One of the Huey’s decided that he wanted to be different and he knit a jumper that was green. Everyone laughed at him. (I thought that was a cruel thing to do)

Let me tell you more... When asked what he was doing he said he didn’t feel like everyone else. As a class we chatted about this to try and decide what he meant. We had ideas that he was different because he just wanted to stand out from the crowd as some children do when they don’t wear their uniform properly. Some children commented that it would be boring if we all looked and acted the same as each other. We would become like machines.

We spent a lot of time talking to our friends and we decided that Huey was ok to be different as long as he was happy. We were happy to find that Huey wasn’t alone and he had a friend he could share his feelings with. We know we have friends and adults in school who we can talk to.

We looked at different families in our class and how our families did different things. We found out that not everyone had a mummy and daddy and brothers and sisters. But we did find out that we were all loved and respected.

Huey’s jumper competition We had a class competition to design a jumper with a message to Huey about what we had learnt. Hope you enjoy our jumpers? We also wrote a poem. What do you think?

We enjoyed our competition and we enjoyed learning about differences in families. We learnt that the most important thing is to be loved and give and have respect for each other.

Respect and love are very important and we hope that you have enjoyed our presentation. By year Four.
