Afghanistan  Afghanistan is one of the poorest countries in the world Poverty in Afghanistan is widespread throughout rural and urban areas. The government estimates that 42 per cent of the country's total population lives below the national poverty line. Another 20 per cent of the people live just above that line and are highly vulnerable to the risk of falling into poverty !

Some random facts  90 per cent of women and 63 per cent of men are unable to read or write  Most people have lost the male head of the household.  Often one or more members of the households is disabled.

Weather  Summers are sunny and generally hot, except in the higher mountains. Sunshine amounts range from six to seven hours a day in winter to as much as twelve to thirteen in summer.

 Around 20 million people out of estimated 26 million population of Afghanistan are living under the line of poverty. The government of Afghanistan, despite the support of the International Community, has not been able to do something considerable for decreasing poverty. Poverty

 Governmental authorities say that the shortage of food on one hand and drought in the past few years in several regions of Afghanistan on the other hand, have increased the intensity of poverty in Afghanistan.  “Urgent need for food”  Adrian Edwards, spokesman for the United Nations mission in Kabul, says that presently millions of people all over Afghanistan are in urgent need of food.

The End  By Lauren and Andrea we are awesome just like our project !
