Configuration Management Benchmarking Group Conference June 6 – 9, 2004 Kansas City, MO © 2004 CMBG Creating A Single Equipment Database Presented By Keith Harvey - WCNOC Mike Lindsay - WCNOC

Creating A Single Equipment Database Breakout session attendees 16 Plant Representatives 6 Facility Representatives 4 Organizational Representatives 2 Software vendors

Creating A Single Equipment Database Everyone recognizes the importance of centralized equipment database. They are in various stages of implementation from hardcopy to fully electronic.

Creating A Single Equipment Database What should be on the MEL? Varies from site to site Does OP’s operate it? Does Maintenance maintain it? Does tag out group tag it out?

Creating A Single Equipment Database Some elements should be included on the MEL? P&ID’s / Flow diagram Description qualifier EQ Serial numbers Set points

The Big Question is: What are the essential elements of the MEL?

A single MEL has the advantage of: providing data integrity common access for everyone that needs to know. It can interface to work order, clearance orders, documents and bills of material Creating A Single Equipment Database

Consolidation Process: Identify the scope of assets Identify involvement of “stake holders” Cleanup of data: validation of format (so data will move) validation of data integrity (10CFR 50 data requirements). Did the data come across okay? Creating A Single Equipment Database
