Tea is one of the most important parts of English life.Everybody knows that the English drink tea with milk, pouring the milk first, and then the tea, without adding extra water.

Tea traditions In the nineteenth century, tea traditions in England appeared. It was not only drinking a cup of hot liquid, but a whole culture of food and behaviour

Conversation was the key component of the English ‘tea ceremony’. There were special recommendations for the mistress of the house. One of the authors of such books recommended drawing up a type of ‘menu for conversation’ and setting it out near the guests ‘ plates

Tearooms poster

Country tearooms Over the last few years, tearooms have been appearing across the provinces. Tea is served according to the old traditions: a pretty tablecloth, pretty porcelain cups and saucers, and with many fine and tastefully selected items of crockery( milk jugs, sugar bowls, napkin holders, plates with cakes)

Golden rules for brewing tea 1.Tea should be from India or Ceylon 2.Tea should be brewed lightly in a porcelain or pottery teapot and mixed with boiling water in a cup 3.The teapot should be warmed 4.Tea must be strong 5.Tea leaves should be placed directly in the teapot and not in little bags, nets or packets.

Golden rules 6. The brew should be poured into the boiling water and not the other way round. 7.Having brewed the tea, it should be stirred or, even better, shaken. 8.Tea should be drunk from high cylindrical cups. 9.Cream should be removed from the milk before the milk is added to the tea 10.First pour the tea and only then pour the milk 11. Tea should be never drunk with sugar, which spoils the taste.

Cream tea In the South of England there are also so-called cream teas. Cream teas usually involve hot rolls, cream prepared in a special way so that in consistency it is more like butter and could be spread, and jam, usually of two types, for example strawberry and plum. There is, of course, a pot of tea of your choice, but ordinary black tea is still favourite.

English tea is still the best Finally, it is only in England that there will be a tea service in every hotel.
