 Ramparts  They were walls built to protect the city from outside forces.  They were four kilometers long and eight meters high.  They were made around the 1300s, and they still can be found today. The fortifications have been standing for about 700 years!  If you like looking at ancient buildings and how they made them, you can check this out. This is a mini wall of china.

 It was a gigantic mansion made in the 18 th century and is extremely beautiful.  Now, it is a fine arts museum and is one of the most wonderful places in Avignon.  It has plenty of portraits of old artists and exhibits fine marble statue and delicate architecture.  If you like taking pictures and love luxury, this will be the place of your dreams!  Tour Ot It:  museum/museum-calvet-avignon/musee-calvet- fine-arts.htm museum/museum-calvet-avignon/musee-calvet- fine-arts.htm

 Le Palais des Papes  This means Pope’s palace.  It has golden statues and people say there are ghosts there.  There are plenty of frescoes inside and has also been made in the 1300s.  Visitors can see about 20 rooms, several historic scenes and it is one of the most visited monuments in France.

This was made in the twelfth century. This monument has a song to it named Sur Pont d’avignon. The bridge stretches from approximately 900 meters and has some 22 arches. It was a pilgrimage route from Italy to Spain. At each crossing of the bridge, the popes prayed for Benezet and left a gift for him.

 Avignon was very populated with over 4000 to 6000 people residing in it during the Middle Ages. It was like a modern day New York City.  It was a city of popes where they traveled on the Saint Bénezet Bridge and built several palaces for themselves.  Also, they built many ramparts, walls, and cathedrals.  Avignon was a crossing place for popes to get from Italy to Spain.
