1 WELCOME TO LONDON

2 LONDON London is the capital of England. It is its political and business centre. The heart of London is the City. It is the oldest part of London. You can visit some interesting places in London. For example The Tower, The National Gallery, Trafalgar Square, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and others.

3 THE TOWER The Tower of London was a fortress, a palace, a prison and a King’s Zoo. Now it is the museum. You can see a lot of interesting things in the White Tower. Its square walls are white and very tall.

4 THE NATIONAL GALLERY The National Gallery is one of the best picture galleries of the world. Every day many tourists visit this fine building with tall columns.

5 TRAFALGAR SQUARE The centre of London is Trafalgar Square. In the middle of the square stands a tall column. It is monument to Admiral Nelson. There are two beautiful fountains in the Trafalgar Square.

6 St. Pauls Cathedral One of the greatest English churches is St. Paul’s Cathedral. The famous English architect Sir Christopher Wren built it in 17th century. It is a beautiful building with many columns and towers.

7 Buckingham Palace The Queen of England lives in Buckingham Palace. It is a wonderful building with a monument in front of it which is the Queen Victoria Memorial.

8 Big Ben Big Ben is the name of the clock and the bell of the clock tower of the Houses of Parliament. The clock and the bell got their names after Sir Benjamin Hall. He was a tall man, whose nickname was Big Ben. So people know the clock as Big Ben.
