Presentation transcript:

The state of Iowa is located in the north- central part of the United States. It has a continental climate with four distinct seasons. Wintertime is very cold and the temperature frequently goes below -20 C at night. There can be heavy snowfall. Wintertime is also the coldest season.

Springtime brings thawing (melt)‏ of the snow and ice from winter. It can also rain heavily in springtime and cause flooding. The weather turns mild and the temperature ranges between 0 C and 15 C for most of the time.

Summers are warm and humid (the air contains lots of moisture). The temperature can get as high as 38 C, However typical (usual, normal) temperature are around 30 to 34 during July and August. Summer is the hottest season.

In the autumn (fall), the temperature cools gradually (slowly, after a long period of time) and the leaves on the trees turn red and gold and fall off.

There could be tornadoes, snow storms, thunder storms and floods. Tornadoes occur in the spring and summer months. Thunderstorms mostly occur during summers, too. Floods happen in the spring when the snow and ice from winter melt and the rain comes. Snowstorms are mostly in the winter, but may sometimes occur in late autumn and early spring.

In Iowa, there are all types of clouds. Cirrus, cumulus, stratus, nimbus and more. We both get rain clouds and non-rain clouds.

In Iowa the wind could blow anytime of the year. Sometimes they could have strong winds, and sometimes they can have breezes. The wind could be strong anytime. It doesn’t matter which season.

In the winter it snows, in the spring, summer and fall it rains and in the spring and summer it hails. Sometimes weather changes. It could snow in the beginning of spring and it could rain at wintertime.
