Policy/Procedure Manual  Summer Board of Directors Meeting 2015, the BOD examined all written policies and procedures for ILMEA student events  Policies and procedures were spread between multiple documents, sometimes at odds with one another  BOD took all this source material and combined everything into one  Each line was discussed by the BOD  Full document available at

New Policies/Procedures  Based on the BOD’s examination, there were several adjustments made to the student events policies/procedures, descriptions of those follow.  All changes are to be fully implemented by the school year, with the exception of the membership requirement which goes into effect for

Audition Policies  In an effort to reduce non-music variables, districts will be implementing blind auditions  For vocal auditions, ranges will now be used to determine voice part  All ILMEA judges are now being paid from a uniform scale  Districts are encouraged to use judges from outside the district whenever possible

All-State Eligibility  Sophomores from all performing divisions – band, chorus, orchestra and jazz – will now be eligible for All-State Selection  This begins next festival season for All- State 2017

District Representatives  To increase the number of volunteer leaders in ILMEA, each District Representative will serve one year as rep- elect with a two-year term as representative to follow  Each rep can be elected for one additional two-year term before leaving the office for at least one election cycle. This would result in the rep serving for four years total

District Representatives, Part 2  Each district will only have one official rep for each division and level (for example, middle school orchestra)  In addition to the rep, it is strongly encouraged that the district have multiple volunteer leaders to assist in planning and production of the auditions and the festivals

ILMEA/NAfME Membership  Membership in a professional association is an important aspect of professional growth. ILMEA believes strongly that music educators that take part in our programs should be dues-paying members. Beginning in the school year, all educators that nominate students for ILMEA programs must be members of ILMEA/NAfME.
