Achievements Establishment of strategies to support first year Maori and Pasifika students. Tangible mechanisms for enhancing the capacity of the FYE Community of Practice (grants, workshops) Clearly defining and setting parameters for the First Year Experience and Retention Coordinator role.

Challenges Lack of defined role and responsibilities (and sustainability) of Faculty First Year “Coordinators” and associated distributed leadership potential. Size and scope of FYER Coordinator’s role and the associated risk of over-promising and under-achieving!
