CHAPTER 8

ISRAEL THINKS THEIR GODLY BLOW THE TRUMPET (FOR WAR) THE ENEMY WILL COME FAST LIKE AN EAGLE THEY HAVE TRANSGRESSED AGAINST GOD’S COVENANT THEY WILL CRY TO THE LORD THAT WE KNOW YOU ISRAEL HAS CAST OFF WHAT IS GOOD THE ENEMY SHALL PURSUE THEM

IDOLUTRY IN ISRAEL THEY HAVE SET UP THEIR OWN KINGS CREATED THEIR OWN IDOLS WORSHIPPED AN IDOL OF A CALF GOD SAYS THE CALF WILL BE BROKEN INTO PIECES

DISPERSION OF ISRAEL They sow the wind, And reap the whirlwind. The stalk has no bud; It shall never produce meal. If it should produce, Aliens would swallow it up. Israel is swallowed up; Now they are among the Gentiles Like a vessel in which is no pleasure.

HARLOTRY & IDOLATRY For they have gone up to Assyria, Like a wild donkey alone by itself; Ephraim has hired lovers. Yes, though they have hired among the nations, Now I will gather them; And they shall sorrow a little, Because of the burden of the king of princes. “ Because Ephraim has made many altars for sin, They have become for him altars for sinning. I have written for him the great things of My law, But they were considered a strange thing. For the sacrifices of My offerings they sacrifice flesh and eat it, But the LORD does not accept them. Now He will remember their iniquity and punish their sins. They shall return to Egypt. “ For Israel has forgotten his Maker, And has built temples; Judah also has multiplied fortified cities; But I will send fire upon his cities, And it shall devour his palaces.”

CHAPTER 9

SINS AGAINST ISRAEL ISRAEL HAS PLAYED THE HARLOT AGAIN THE NEW WINE SHALL FAIL HER THEY SHALL NOT DWELL IN THE LAND OF THE LORD THEY WILL TRUST IN ASSYRIA & EGYPT OFFERINGS WERE NOT OFFERED OR PLEASING TO THE LORD THE DAYS OF PUNISHMENT HAS COME

ISRAEL NOT GODLY THE PROPHET IS A FOOL A SPIRITUAL MAN IS INSANE THEY HAVE TURNED TOWARDS BAAL I WILL DRIVE THEM OUT OF MY HOUSE My God will cast them away, Because they did not obey Him; And they shall be wanderers among the nations.

CHAPTER 10

CHAPTER 11

PARALLEL VERSE “When Israel was a child, I loved him, And out of Egypt I called My son. MATTHEW 2:14 When he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night and departed for Egypt, and was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, “Out of Egypt I called My Son.”

AFTER EGYPT THEY TURNED TO BAAL WORSHIP DID NOT NOTICE ALL THAT THE LORD WAS DOING FOR THEM THEY WILL NOT RETURN TO EGYPT BUT THE ASSRYIANS SHALL BE THEIR KING REFUSE TO REPENT

THEIR OWN GUILT THEIR CITIES WILL BE DEVOURED BECAUSE OF THEIR OWN COUNSELS THEY CALL UPON THE LORD BUT DO NOT EXALT HIM

LORD’S SYMPATHY “ How can I give you up, Ephraim? How can I hand you over, Israel? How can I make you like Admah? How can I set you like Zeboiim? My heart churns within Me; My sympathy is stirred. I will not execute the fierceness of My anger; I will not again destroy Ephraim. For I am God, and not man, The Holy One in your midst; And I will not come with terror. “ They shall walk after the LORD. He will roar like a lion. When He roars, Then His sons shall come trembling from the west; They shall come trembling like a bird from Egypt, Like a dove from the land of Assyria. And I will let them dwell in their houses,” Says the LORD.

PERSISTENT REBELLION “ Ephraim has encircled Me with lies, And the house of Israel with deceit; But Judah still walks with God, Even with the Holy One who is faithful.

CHAPTER 12

DEPENDING ON OTHERS EPHRAIM FEEDS ON WIND (NATIONS) LOOK TOWARDS THE WIND OF THE EAST (ASSYRIANS) OIL CARRIED TO EGYPT (PROTECTION)

GOD’S MERCY TO JACOB WHEN HE REPENTED THE LORD WILL HAVE TROUBLE WITH JUDAH WILL PUNISH JACOB He (Jacob) took his brother (Esau) by the heel in the womb, And in his strength he struggled with God. Yes, he struggled with the Angel and prevailed; He wept, and sought favor from Him. He found Him in Bethel, And there He spoke to us— That is, the LORD God of hosts. The LORD is His memorable name.

RETURN BACK TO GOD So you, by the help of your God, return; Observe mercy and justice, And wait on your God continually. “ A cunning Canaanite! Deceitful scales are in his hand; He loves to oppress. And Ephraim said, ‘Surely I have become rich, I have found wealth for myself; In all my labors They shall find in me no iniquity that is sin.’ “ But I am the LORD your God, Ever since the land of Egypt; I will again make you dwell in tents, As in the days of the appointed feast (TABERNACLES). I have also spoken by the prophets, And have multiplied visions; I have given symbols through the witness of the prophets.” Though Gilead has idols— Surely they are vanity— Though they sacrifice bulls in Gilgal, Indeed their altars shall be heaps in the furrows of the field. Jacob fled to the country of Syria; Israel served for a spouse, And for a wife he tended sheep. By a prophet (MOSES) the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, And by a prophet he was preserved. Ephraim provoked Him to anger most bitterly; Therefore his Lord will leave the guilt of his bloodshed upon him, And return his reproach upon him.

CHAPTER 13

NO FEAR OF GOD When Ephraim spoke, trembling, He exalted himself in Israel; But when he offended through Baal worship, he died. ISRAEL CONTINUES TO SIN MORE & MORE THEY WILL NOT LAST MUCH LONGER

GOD ALWAYS REMEMBERED ISRAEL Yet I am the LORD your God Ever since the land of Egypt, And you shall know no God but Me; For there is no savior besides Me. I knew you in the wilderness, In the land of great drought. When they had pasture, they were filled; They were filled and their heart was exalted; Therefore they forgot Me.

THE LORD’S WRATH I GAVE YOU JUDGES I GAVE YOU A KING FROM MY ANGER I TOOK HIM AWAY IN MY WRATH

ONE KING “ O Israel, you are destroyed, But your help is from Me. I will be your King; Where is any other, That he may save you in all your cities? “ I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death. O Death, I will be your plagues! O Grave, I will be your destruction! Pity is hidden from My eyes.”

CHAPTER 14

ADVICE FOR ISRAEL ISRAEL RETURN TO GOD YOU HAVE SINNED ASK GOD TO TAKE AWAY ALL INIQUITY OFFER SACRIFICES OF OUR LIPS NO LONGER DEPEND ON ASSRYIA AND THEIR GODS

GOD’S LOVE GOD WILL HEAL THEIR BACKSLIDING LOVE THEM FREELY HIS ANGER WILL TURN AWAY FROM THEM ISRAEL WILL GROW & STRENGTHEN ITSELF Who is wise? Let him understand these things. Who is prudent? Let him know them. For the ways of the LORD are right; The righteous walk in them, But transgressors stumble in them.
