Levels of thinking and questioning

Knowledge Recalling memorized information What are some of the things that Goldilocks did in the bear's house?

Comprehension The ability to grasp the meaning of material. Translating or interpreting information. Why did Goldilocks like the little bear's chair best?

Application The ability to use learned material in new and concrete situations. Applying rules, methods, concepts, principles, laws, and theories. If Goldilocks had come into your house, what are some of the things she might have found?

Analysis The ability to break down material into its component parts. Identifying parts, analysis of relationships between parts, recognition of the organizational principles involved What parts of the story could not have actually happened?

Synthesis The ability to put parts together to form a new whole. How might the story have been different if Goldilocks had visited the three fish instead of the three bears?

Evaluation The ability to judge the value of material for a given purpose. Do you think Goldilocks was good or bad? Why do you think so?
