What does it Cost?

How Much do Residents of Illinois Pay to Complete the General Education Requirements?  To fulfill the Inner Core requirements, a resident student will spend approximately $2, on 6 classes  To fulfill the Middle Core requirements, a resident student can spend as much as $2, on 5 classes  To fulfill the Outer Core requirements, a resident student will spend between $1, and $2, on 4 classes

That means... A resident student will pay a total between $7, and $8, to complete the General Education Requirements !

For that amount of money, you could buy a used Dodge Neon!

How Much do Non-Residents of Illinois Pay to Complete the General Education Requirements?  To fulfill the Inner Core requirements, a non-resident student will spend approximately $5, on 6 classes  To fulfill the Middle Core requirements, a resident student can spend as much as $4, on 5 classes  To fulfill the Outer Core requirements, a resident student will spend between $3, and $ on 4 classes

That means... A non-resident student will pay a total between $13, and $15, to complete the General Education Requirements !

For that amount of money, you could buy a new Pontiac Grand Am!

Questions to consider... When did you find out about the General Education Program? When did you find out about the General Education Program? How well informed do you believe that the typical non-FOI section 7 student on campus is about the General Education Program? How well informed do you believe that the typical non-FOI section 7 student on campus is about the General Education Program? How well informed do you believe a typical ISU professor is about the General Education Program? How well informed do you believe a typical ISU professor is about the General Education Program? How well informed do you believe that your parents are about the General Education program? How well informed do you believe that your parents are about the General Education program?

We have all of this information... So what? If so much of a student’s time and money go into the completion of the General Education Program, why is it not better publicized?

Would you be willing to write a check for $15, for a car that you had never seen or taken for a test drive? Why should prospective ISU students be asked to do this for the General Education Program?

*If so much time and money is going into the General Education program, is the program doing its job? *Is it creating interest in ISU for prospective students? *Is it beneficial to current ISU students?

If not, it is time for ISU to reconsider the General Education Program!
