Greek Mythology

Zeus Zeus was the supreme ruler of Mount Olympus. He also ruled over all of the gods who lived there. He was also a celestial god and was worshiped as a weather god by Greek tribes. His most famous attribute was the lightening bolt. This was most likely because he was in control of thunder lightening, and rain.

Zeus

Hera Hera was the Queen of Olympian deities. She was Zeus’s wife and sister. Hera was mainly worshiped as the goddess of marriage and child birth. Hera gave birth to the god of fire, Hephaestus, the god of youth, Hebe, and the god of war, Ares. Her children were not conceived with the help of a man but out of hatred and lust.

Hera

Aphrodite In Greek mythology the goddess of love and beauty was named Aphrodite. Homer called her a daughter of Zeus and Dione. When Aphrodite was born Zues was afraid that she would be fought over for her hand in marriage, so he married her off to Hephaestus, the god of fire. But Aphordite was not to happy about being Hepaestus wife. She loved glamour and feeling beautiful.

Aphrodite

Apollo Apollo is known as the sun god. Apollo was also a professional in the talent of archery. Besides Zeus, this multi-talented god is recognized as the most important god in Olympia. He was Zeus' favorite son. When seen, Apollo always had a wreath and branch of laurel, bow and quiver, raven, and lyre. At four years old, Apollo slayed a serpent named python for harassing his mother.

Apollo

Athena Athena is known as the goddess of wisdom. She was born through Zeus brain. She is also known as one of the three virgin goddesses. Athena was Zeus' favorite child. She is the only one Zeus entrusted with his magic shield as well as the secret of where his lightening bolts were hidden. Athena also serves as Zeus' advisor.

Athena

Demeter Demeter was the earth goddess of Greece. She taught the Greeks important skills in order to move out of their “Nomadic” lifestyle. Supposedly Demeter’s daughter, Persephone, was taken by Hades and she searched for her lost child. But, supposedly, during this time period the the earth did not produce any grain for the people of Greece. Demeter only lets things grow when she is with her daughter.

Demeter

Artemis Artemis is the goddess of the wilderness. As well as the hunt, and wild animals. She was often imagined with a crescent moon symbol on her forehead, and was sometimes compared with Selene, the goddess of the moon. Artemis was an Olympian and a virgin goddess. Supposedly she would wander the land and hunt.

Artemis

Hephaestus Hephaestus, as we previously discussed, was the god of fire. He was also married to Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty. He would use his skills to make her the finest jewelry and he made her a gold girdle, which was a bad idea because when she wore the girdle it made he even more irresistible then she already was.

Hephaestus

Ares Ares is the god of war. He is the only son of the most powerful god Zeus and Hera. Although his parents were immortal, Ares wasn't and when he would get wounded in war he would go to his father to be healed. Ares is known as being vain and cruel and he is worshipped in Tharacia. When there was a war, he was excited to fight,he didn't care who won just as long as blood was shed.

Ares

Hermes Hermes is the messenger of Zeus. His job is to protect travelers, robbers etc. that pray to him or cross his path. Hermes pass messages to humans from the gods. He has wings on his shoes that allow him to fly freely between the mortal and immortal world. Out of all the Olympians he is the youngest.

Hermes

Poseidon Poseidon is the god of the sea. Poseidon is known for being decisive, competitive, & dignified. He is also known as being very moody which is why it was highly suggested to stay on his good side. He made a hobby of taking his frustrations out on those who angered him. Poseidon is known for making Odysseus suffer for 8 years with earthquakes, storms, & sea monsters for blinding his son.

Poseidon

Hades Hades is the god of the underworld. Hades is also known as the god of wealth. Zeus and Poseidon are his brothers. His father Coronus, divided the world up evenly between the three brothers. Zeus became god of the heavens, Poseidon became god of the land, and Hades became god of the underworld. He was given the worst draw out of the Hades was known as being very greedy and always trying to find ways to gain more.
